Situation

Samantha is talking regularly but barely building: one commit in the last 21 days (12 Aug, Treasured_Paradise) and she has been on Trello card '13 - Own Project - Define Data structures / sources' for 170 days, with her last self-logged time entry 151 days old. Her own messages explain why — a family/life emergency through mid-August, work that is 'mentally draining', and a feeling of being lost about how to organise a first big 3D game. She is still engaged with the material (game architecture and Game Design Patterns books, Unity animation, Docker/server videos) and responds to coaches within a day or two, so this is a time-and-scope problem rather than disengagement. Alexandros' 'how's life?' on Sun 30 Aug is the last message in the chat and has not been answered yet.

Concerns

  • 170 days on one card with almost no commits: the gap between reading/watching and shipping is widening, and card 13 has no visible definition of done.
  • She asked directly on 22 Aug for a way to organise the work and hasn't been given a concrete artefact or method yet — Florian's reply addressed the Docker question and her life situation, not the organisation request.
  • Her learning input is broad (game architecture, software engineering mindset, Docker/servers) relative to how little time she has, which risks more overwhelm rather than less.
  • External load (work, repeated emergencies) has been the limiting factor for weeks by her own account, not skill.

Drafts

Edit freely, then copy. pokAI never sends anything — you paste it into WhatsApp yourself.

technical follow-up
why this, now

Picks up the concrete thread she left on 13 Aug and the 12 Aug commit, and gives her an easy technical re-entry point instead of another open-ended 'how's it going'.

structure / answering her actual question
why this, now

She asked for this on 22 Aug and hasn't had a direct answer; it also reframes the 170-day Trello card as something small enough to finish in a bad week.

accountability check, low pressure
why this, now

Uses her own words from 26 Aug to hold a light commitment, and names the reading-vs-building gap without making her feel judged for a genuinely hard month.

Open questions

What the data does not answer.

  • Has the emergency actually resolved, and did the 'undisrupted' week she hoped for materialise?
  • Did the new animation script get integrated into PlayerLandMovement.cs after the 12 Aug commit, or is that still open?
  • What does she consider outstanding on card 13 — is anything written down beyond the game document, or is the card simply not being touched?
  • Realistically how many hours a week does she have right now? Time tracking is 151 days stale, so there is no reliable figure.
  • Commit contents were not fetched, so what the 12 Aug change actually amounts to in the project is unknown.

Evidence

  • One commit in the 21-day window, 18 days ago, in Treasured_Paradisecommit Wed 12 Aug 20:42 [Treasured_Paradise]
  • Stuck on the same curriculum card for 170 days at week 56 of mentoringTrello: '13 - Own Project - Define Data structures / sources', 170 days
  • Self-reported time tracking is 151 days stale and already described losing time management to competing demandsTrello time entry, 151 days ago
  • She restarted the movement/animation work after deciding she had over-complicated it, and planned to integrate a new animation script into PlayerLandMovement.csWhatsApp 13 Aug 03:27
  • The GitHub push problem she reported was resolved by her, no errors remainingWhatsApp 13 Aug 03:28
  • A personal emergency ran through the week before 20 Aug and was starting to calm downWhatsApp 20 Aug 20:54
  • She explicitly asked for help with feeling lost and overwhelmed and for a better way to organise what needs to be accomplished beyond her game documentWhatsApp 22 Aug 19:20
  • Florian answered the Docker/server question by scoping it to later (multiplayer/network stack) and asked about her time/life situationWhatsApp 24 Aug 14:17 and 14:22
  • She is reading Game Design Patterns in 5-10 minute gaps and hoping for undisrupted focus 'next week' — i.e. this weekWhatsApp 26 Aug 11:49

Hey guys. just letting you know that I have been working and doing some studying for my game and making sense of all that involved. I think I am actually getting down the animation aspect of coding and working with unity for a smoother character control and flow. I also picked up a book for game architecture and another about software engineering on how to continue the mindset of an engineer.

or share if we can assist in any way possible
  5. CLIENT Samantha Yocius 13 Aug 03:27
I realized that I was over complicating the movement and animation so I started that bit over and going through and creating a new animation script. I will be integrating it into PlayerLandMovement.cs. I had been working on fixing the problems of GitHub not taking my commits and pushing them through.
  6. RAK Alexandros Kapniaris 13 Aug 03:27
are you currently able to push? do you get any errors?
  7. CLIENT Samantha Yocius 13 Aug 03:28
I was able to work it out and now it is pushing. No, I currently don’t have errors.

hey Alex. Life has been lifeing... I have been dealing with another emergency the past couple of days/week but things are starting to calm down.

I have also be feeling kind of lost and I understand that that could be because work has been eating up all my time and not only that but mentally draining and havent been spending my time on what I am passionate about but I did get some books about game architecture and structure. There are times when everything I need to do yet gets overwhelming. Is there anything I can do or reference to help with not becoming overwhelmed. Being my first ever big time 3d game and other than what we have made and some other frogger/pong like games I have made, I just didnt know if there was a better way to organize what needs to be accomplished. I know that I have my game document but I also understand there is way more involved and that is just an overview.

CLIENT Samantha Yocius Thank you, So I am watching more videos and all of the docker and server videos - do I need to at this time get a server/docker? Or is this something I will need later on when I am in the spot of sharing my game. (or maybe not that way). I am still watching becuse it is great information.
this is more towards building a web app - but generally hosting / docker etc can become relevant when you start implementing a network stack (i.e. multiplayer)

well i mean being lost is expected - and external factors (aka. life happening) make that harder. we're here to help you, of course given you find the time to work on your project. I don't need details, but what's your current time/life situation?
  16. CLIENT Samantha Yocius 26 Aug 11:44
sounds good. I will keep it mind
  17. CLIENT Samantha Yocius 26 Aug 11:49
I am hoping that things start to calm down and that I can actual focus without disruption next week. I have been reading Game Design Patterns when I have like 5 or 10 min and even when I am at work and having some downtime.
